Lucinda Marshall

Furies on an Airless Night

tempests without sail

the swirling agony

of interior cyclones,

without respect

to previous arrangement

in their wake,

the carnage of chaotic plunder.

Tea Drinking Before Eulogy

The bitter taste of legacy,

her recitation of shrouded truth,

steeped in a dowry of

chipped tea cups

that once held pride of place

in an old curio cabinet,

a decaying fable

of another life,

as if knowledge might soothe

her tarnished offering,

spoken to the pain of a world

veiled in diaphanous clouds

that feather-danced across

their ethereal backdrop,

in defiance of all possession.
